Several hundred refugees started their journey on foot from Keleti railway station.
Their aim is to walk all the way to Vienna. Our correspondent Horváth Bence reported from the scene that the refugees took up the bus lane on Rákóczi street, and people assist them in staying in that lane. There are many children, and some people are carrying all their belongings.
The asylum-seekers are not chanting slogans, they are just walking, and those in the front sometimes say “Go, go! Nonstop!” Our correspondent did not see any policemen initially, the first sirens sounded when the crowd reached Blaha Lujza square. A few policemen arrived to take control of the situation, but more and more refugees are joining the march.
The front rows of the march at Blaha have walked into the traffic, straight towards Buda.
According to Google, a strong long-distance walker can reach Vienna from Keleti Railway station in 50 hours without stopping. But not like this:
