UN Thanks Policeman’s Humane Approach in Röszke
Hungarian first lieutenant made sure family could accompany a pregnant Iraqi woman in pain to hospital.
Legally paramedics were only supposed to have transported the pregnant mother and not her husband and two-year-old son to the hospital in Szeged, Hungary. The family were afraid to part fearing it might take weeks to reunite. According the UN Refugee Agency’s Facebook page the police first lieutenant who had called the ambulance arranged for the husband to accompany her pregnant wife. It was only later that he realized they had a child with them. He quickly decided the boy should go as well.
